DMATS & GAS
(Display Measurement Asessment Transfer Standard &
Gamut Assessment Standard)

Overview:
The display-measurement-assessment transfer standard (DMATS, pronounced "dee'-mats") provides an array of back-illuminated targets that serve to span the visible color gamut, that provide a large luminance range, and permit a variety of other targets to characterize the measurement apparatus and the measuring environment. The gamut-assessment-standard (GAS) is a simplified version of the DMATS that offers colors and luminances one at a time.

Publications:
A Color Gamut Assessment Standard: Construction, Characterization, and Inter-Laboratory Measurement Comparison:  (GAS-SPIE03.pdf) --This paper is the first publication of the GAS. It shows the construction details and describes the success of an intercomparison with NPL. Citation : J. Libert, E. Kelley, P. Boynton, S. Brown, C. Wall, and C. Campbell, "A Color Gamut Assessment Standard: Construction, Characterization, and Inter-Laboratory Measurement Comparison," Fourth Oxford Conference on Spectrometry, SPIE vol. 4826 pp. 146-164, August 2003.

A Standard Illumination Source for the Evaluation of Display Measurement Methods and Instruments: (DMATS_02.pdf) --This paper is similar to the first, but includes more detailed photometric and colorimetric characterization of the DMATS prototype and examines the contaminating effect of veiling glare on color measurements. Citation : John M. Libert, Paul A. Boynton, Edward F. Kelley, Steven W. Brown, Yoshihiro Ohno, and Farshid Manoocheri, "A Standard Illumination Source for the Evaluation of Display Measurement Methods and Instruments," Proceedings of the SPIE V4295, SPIE Electronic Imaging Symposium, San Jose, CA, January 23, 2001.

An Assessment Standard for the Evaluation of Display Measurement Capabilities: (DMATS_01.pdf) --This paper describes the design, construction, and preliminary characterization of a prototype DMATS source, and uses the prototype DMATS to illustrate several common measurement deficiencies. Citation: J. M. Libert, P. A. Boynton, E. F. Kelley, S. Brown and Y. Ohno, "An Assessment Standard for the Evaluation of Display Measurement Capabilities," Proceedings of the Society for Imaging Science & Technology (IS&T) / Society for Information Display (SID) Eighth Color Imaging Conference: Color Science and Engineering, Scottsdale, AZ, November 7-10, 2000.

Interference Filter Characterization of Spectroradiometers and Colorimeters: (IntFilSID96.PDF) ---This is the publication that started it all. Here we see how well interference filters work to cover the color gamut. Citation: P. Boynton, Y. Ohno, and E. Kelley, "Interference Filter Characterization of Spectroradiometers and Colorimeters," Society for Information Display International Symposium Digest of Technical Papers, Vol. 27, San Diego, CA, pp. 207-210, May 12-17, 1996.
